Well I got my EBS from the group buy today and got it installed. I wasn't really sure how the 3 port vs 2 port installation differed, so I followed the direction in the GB thread. Install was ok, was kind of a pain in the ass to get to the nipple on the turbo, but once I got that it was smooth sailing. First impressions ![]() I realize that everyone is saying that a tune is required, I really do understand that. But in my logical thinking before hand, I was only spiking at 14 and dropping down to 11ish. So with this being the 35% more efficient, I was expecting 35% more boost (hence the tune so you don't overboost). Anyways, I'm now spiking at 16psi and it drops down to 14 and holds till about 6k rpm's where it drops off down to 12, sometimes 11! My math kicks ass!!! Spool appears to happen faster (like they said it would) and overall the car pulls harder (obviously...more boost). I'm happy I got in on the GB on this and have it installed now! I hope everyone else's experience will be as good as mine, cause the GB was pretty damn organized and went as smooth as possible. THANKS Grimmspeed and RallySportDirect!!! pics in the GB thread...didn't take any install ones (sorry guys) did it in the parking garage at my apartments with a tiny ass flashlight and only had my iPhone. I would like to point out that based on the install instructions, I do believe I have this hooked up the 3 port way, in case that wasn't clear.

So after driving to work today (30 minutes of highway, good time to open it up in higher gears) I noticed a couple of things. I'm still spiking at 16 psi (saw 17 ONCE, but that was it) but its now settling lower. The entire trip I was holding at 13.6-13.8 and dropping down to 11ish after 5600 rpms and at redline I hit 9 (fuckin gay...whatever). So I don't know if this is the ECU learning that this solenoid is more efficient and therefore compensating for it or what. Just wanted to throw that out there too for you guys who are going to be tuning for it. I'll post back in a couple days and see if anything else has changed, but I've put about 50-60 miles on it so far only.

You don't understand the principles of boost control. The "efficient" solenoid bit is just BS to sell a product. The stock solenoid reacts just fine. There is no need to replace it unless it is broken or it can't flow the required amount of air out to keep the desired pressure on the wastegate. This is not the case. The boost change you are seeing has nothing to do with efficiency, it is just that you installed a different actuator than what the system is calibrated for with different response time and flow characteristics. Not better, just DIFFERENT. You have to understand that a solenoid is simply an electronic device that allows you to divert pressure. The control logic and parameters are what define how the solenoid controls the boost. I am sorry to be so harsh, but unfortunately there is no reason to upgrade the solenoid. If you want more boost, simply calibrate the ECU or just run a different boost control method (electronic or manual stand alone controller). | ||||||||

wow......and you were only spiking to 14psi? I was spiking to 20 settling at 17 and then drop after 5500rpm. theres a gremlin in your engine bay.

Well now i'm spiking to 16, and once I saw 17. But before...yeah. I've checked everything out, nothing's loose, no holes...I really have no idea, and thats why I posted up those logs earlier (different thread) and everyone said it was normal boost levels, so I gave up trying to find out why after that.

It is, but I was already not even getting close to even what stock boost should be at, so I figured with the 35% difference, I would be closer to stock boost levels but still under. I think if you're at stock boost levels, then you would have an issue because there would be an even higher overboosting effect.

i remember back in november when i bought this and said i was over boosting and people told me i was full of shit and needed to tune with it(i was tuning with it). i would over boost more than 30 psi sometimes. so i just diconected it and have been running ewg psi since then. im my opinion waste of money till some one finds out how to use it right. FML i didnt even get a ms3 mount i had to get the subi mount back then.........

seriously, you need to go back to stock boost control, and figure out your problem before you start fooling around with adding a mod. You are just asking for trouble if you leave the 3 port ebc installed with no tuning.

Not to sound like an ass or anything, but what "trouble" would there be? And what "problem" did I have before? I've never been close to 15psi since day one (ok I didn't check day one, but a week or so after I bought it). And even on here everyone said that my boost looked normal. I don't see how there would be an issue? The only other "strange" thing I've noticed is that the Abs Load according to the dashhawk only gets to about 160% where as everyone else is saying theirs is 180-200. Either way, I don't see any issues right now, I'm not even spiking as high as some people do stock. An AP is next on the purchase list, and should happen in a week or so and I'm sure that if the wg duty cycle is left untouched with a map that is say 18psi, then yes I could very seriously see an issue with that, just not when the highest PSI I've ever seen is 16 lbs and hold at 12-14 depending on the gear.

Not hating just sayin, but your boost being that low is indicating some problem. Now with the 3 port EBC it's higher but this prolly should not be a big problem until you have the AP where you are gonna prolly get real bad over-boost.

Ok, that's what I was thinking, but then I'd be able to tune for it with the AP, so no worries. I did notice today tho, I just started watching STFT and LTFT just for something different and noticed at idle after my 30 minute drive home my STFT was at -17!!! When I first started the car it was normal...around -3ish. LTFT never really changed, stayed at 1.6 save for WOT and both where at 0.00. So not sure about that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

stft is always swaying back and forth. Its only when there is a certain trend one way or the other that it then saves this as LTFT. So, unless your ltft is outta whack (which i see its 0) then you have nothing to worry about with stft.

Well I got around to fixing the install. It was my error. The 3rd port MUST have a cap otherwise you will overboost. I have some logs of before and after but I cant get them to load. Do I have to save them in a special format to load on the forums?

Here they are both were taken from a standstill. It was 60* for the stock log and 50* for the new one. Stock is on the left.

There is some confusion on how to install this in 2 port mode and I can see some of you have installed it in 2 port mode incorrectly (that would explain the overboosting). We have revised the install instructions to include 2 port and 3 port installation. They are available here: https://www.grimmspeed.com/install_g...MazdaSpeed.pdf For 3 port mode installation, you will need tuning. We include the connector and plug required for 3 port installation on all new kits. If you got the initial shipment, you should have recieved the plug and connector by now. I got the cap and plastic piece today, thanks GS. I dont plan on installing this until I get my BNR turbo back. And once its all setup I will definantly be having a ProTune done. Found a place close to me EFI and they have had experience w/ MS3 and the AP Not looking for Big#'s just a safe tune @ 16-18lbs, nothing crazy

got the cap and directions ONLY, NO CONNECTOR !!!! There was a hole in the letter so maybe it fell out. Can ya'll send me the connector so's I can get this unit workin ? Hoping to get into the 12's with this. Thanks
