Interesting KR observation

So Im riding to a buds house on a tollway .. 15 miles, straight line, 50 outside. I was riding in 6th gear, 70 mph holding steady with my foot .. no speed increase of decrease.. no boost. Fucking dashhawk was going nuts ... 2.0kr to 8.0kr up and down left and fucking right .. I was lifting every 2 minutes all the way there .. Car never studdered or jumped, and no audible knock.. making me think its the false knock everyone is always talking about. ON THE WAY back ,, same speed, same gear, same road .. I used cruise control at 70 mph... no knock anytime anywhere all the way home . . w-t-f :grumble:

superskaterxes 01-05-2010 06:33 AM

if you get that kinda knock. DONT lift your foot. if you ride it out and dont increase throttle position the ECU will slowly decrease knock till 0. this is the ECU's way of "learning" the best timing advance for maximum emissions and MPG and if you keep letting up it will never really learn. and after you let it learn the knock should come back less and less. as long as your not WOT, no amount of KR can damage your engine.

slyguy800 01-05-2010 06:53 AM

i'm guessing one reason for knock retard to show while using your foot to maintain rather than cruise control is because you can't hold the speed as precisely like the computer can so you might be causing slight variations making it harder for the computer to find its happy spark ignition point for best mpg. your stft were probably bouncing a little bit as you barely tweaked the pedal to maintain speed which is enough for the computer to continue to change ignition.

I can maintain speed better than my cruise control, I get way more knock with cruise control on than when I use my foot.

I can dig it .. ill do so .. and I did once or twice and it did the count down to 0 .. its just erks me to look at it .. thanks fellas

kilik2 01-05-2010 07:20 AM

maybe its because I dont have flat highways, therefore more knock with varying load and such but for me its more manageable with my right foot.

I made a thread call

"15 Hours of KR"

Johnnyspeed this happened to me for 15hrs, but i had the cruise control on. without the cruise control it wouldn't knock.

My car has a kr sweet spot of 3200 rpms, it must be some engine noise from the MM. So always at 80mph i will get kr

mine was doing the same shit a few months ago, i noticed that above 80mph my kr would go crazy. its most likely what was stated, its cutting/adding timing to get the best mpg. its still scary staring at 5+ points of kr on the dh flashing big in ur face lol. if you leave the gas pedal down the kr reduces slowly

i had this last night on the way home from work went from 0-5-0 in increments, just left my foot where it was and listened for anything. no big deal. I get that annoying .35-.7 kr constantly tho

deuce_WI 01-05-2010 11:16 AM

I have another recent KR observation supporting the temperature changes make the knock sensor go crazy theories.

Parked my car in a heated garage for a few hours at 60F on a night when it was around 10F outside. Oil change, vacuum her out, and whatever else. Head out later into the cold, and the KR alerts were going bonkers for about 5-10 minutes. Repeated countdowns all over the place at low speed and especially getting on the freeway.

Can't wait until warmer weather so this car settles back down.

drove to nyc from ohio... DH would only go off around 2800-3200rpms... its so fucked up i swear.. if i drive 80mph or so it will pull this bullshit... that happens to be around 3k rpm.

Get a log and we can try some stuff.

phantom3 01-05-2010 11:47 AM

I get 0 KR all the time... ignorance is bliss.

i made a post with a log

15 hours of watching kr

hnda etr 01-05-2010 12:41 PM

i always get the PT KR when the car has been sitting for a while... especially now in winter

get on the freeway, put cruise control on about 75... DH starts flashing red at ~6.5, and I just watch it creep it's way down to 0.0...

It happens with and without cruise control... I can keep my foot steady enough....

YokiMazoku 01-16-2010 11:46 PM

This is to funny i thought i completely got rid of my KR b/c all gears 1-4 i get nothing except sometimes when its really cold and i just start up. The other day i was on the highway which i dont do much and i did notice the same thing except i get it when cruise control is on. 3000rpm to 3500rpm it seems and only in 5 and 6th gear tried it in the other gears and nothing. That is really weird but mine did only go up to 4.9 so i dont feel to bad. I dont however get it when i go WOT in 5th or 6th gear just with cruise control it seems well it is probably cuz i cant keep my foot steady oh well.

Same here under light loads in 2nd - 4th gear, PT 3k-3.2k rpms is the real sweet spot for PT Kr. Another interesting observation that Ive made is that, the closer I get to WOT (accelerating faster) the lower the kr gets in 2nd and 3rd gear at the sweet spot 3200rpm

Nigelo 01-18-2010 04:31 PM

Can I join the KR club? :D Im going to have to change my dashhawks settings - I swear that 5+ KR red warning flash from the DH will have me a heart attack sooner-or-later!

I get the KR worst when Im mixing a lot of different driving styles in one journey, and higher readings in higher gears. Its generally on lifting off the throttle after a slight bit of acceleration.

YokiMazoku 01-19-2010 02:24 PM

Oh a side note has anyone notice that once you change your oil your KR gones down dramatically?

Deadman 01-20-2010 06:08 AM

it has nothing to do with changing your oil... i changed mine recently and it performs the same lol... Mine will do it around 2.5k or 3k-3.2k just like a member above said, its really weird. None of it is audible though so i don't know what to think, i just floor it and it goes away. :P
