Putting a speed 6 engine in...something else

So I think I am going to do something crazy and put a used cx7 engine/turbo in my mazda 6i chassis. the engine blew, and I want to make a replacement count.

Trying to make the wiring harness and ecu of MS mate with my stock isn't a viable option, so I want the engine to run standalone. Plus the tuning options are there.

So what are the standalone options? I havent had a lot of luch finding much info on specs or pricing.
Does anyone have any other input on this project?

AEM standalone

Right now due to the speed engine being DI there isn't a standalone that is close to being plug and play. Flash tuning has been the way to go so investment in standalones has been low.

If you'd like a Mazda 6 with a Speed motor, I suggest fixing your car with cheap used motor, selling it, and getting a Speed6 which will also be AWD and using a flash based tuning solution.

I would even say that taking the Mazda 6 motor, beefing it up, and putting a turbo on there will be easier/cheaper than making the DISI work nicely in your car.

Or you can go Motec if you have deep pockets.

I thought MoTeC and Haltech were both working on direct injection a while ago... Not sure if they have anything released yet

CX-7 engine=/=Speed6 engine

I know it won't really be easy. So is no one here using standalone?

I have a cx7 engine with turbo I can get for $1k. A rebuilt standard engine is $2500 for stock replacement. So, I have so wiggle room for a lot of parts, and I don't mind investing a bit more to make the car worth having.

So what standalone do people here use? (read as I can steal a base tune from)

Tokay444 12-16-2011 12:58 PM

No one is using stand alone.
That is correct.

No kidding. wow. Well that might be the answer I need to NOT do this project.

Good.

Domino81 12-16-2011 01:06 PM

Didn't Car and Driver do this with a Mazda 5?

Lol yeah. Theres some dude in thialand using AEM... prolly the only one.

Most people here have flash tuner like AP, HT or VT

Frankly I think you're better off keeping what you've got, rebuilding the motor with forged internals. You've got a LOT more growth room with the non DISI mzr merely due to PI instead of DI

but you don't have AWD.

06Speed6 12-17-2011 04:21 AM

If you swap ECUs, rekey it and swap in a speed 6 wiring harnesses it can be done, but it would be cheaper to just buy a used speed 6. Just those parts alone are north of $3k

EDIT #1: You would have to disable all of the drivetrain CELs also.

EDIT #2: And you will need a ms3 trans and custom axles...

EDIT #3: And custom exhaust...

EDIT #4: And the ms6 shifter assembly...

EDIT #5: The instrument cluster may be speed 6 specific to plug into the speed 6 ecu.

EDIT #6: The ms6 radiator is almost certanly much larger and it will need to be swapped in with all of the coolant hoses.

EDIT #7: the a/c lines are also ms6 specific

EDIT #8: you will also need a fmic kit because the ms6 hood isnt a direct swap iirc and the stock tmic will hit the stock 6i hood and it will not close.

You don't have the budget nor the resources.
Don't do it.

broken08 12-19-2011 08:54 AM

ok, thanks for all the great info. I'll take a pass and wait to just get an ms6.
I was going to trade in my 6i and upgrade until the motor blew at 57k. So much for mobil1 since day one on a new car. From now on I'm going used car and cheap oil.

Thanks too all but the flamers here. ( I kind of can't believe the harsh atmosphere. I'm in over 8 forums and have never had the welcome I have here. I hope said members can find a way to fit thier huge heads in their cars.)

triplejumper18 12-19-2011 09:00 AM

Too bad choice of oil wasn't the reason you grenaded the engine.

Oh, and nobody here was remotely harsh to you.

Tokay444 12-19-2011 12:16 PM

Good luck using cheap oil on your used speed6.
I also wouldn't even use mobil1 in my 4 stroke lawnmower.

Harsh?

Maybe you should dig the sand out of your flaming, bleeding vagina before you get a UTI.

You came in here asking a faggot, ricer-with-no-money question when you're not even smart enough not to use Mobil 1 in anything, let alone a car.

Here's a suggestion: The next time you consider joining a forum, take a moment to read through new-user threads to see how they're treated when they ask questions as fucking stupid as you just did... then you would've known to fuck off before filling the server with another window-licking post.

I'm guessing you're too stupid to understand what I'm saying so I'll try to restate:

If you walked into a physicist's convention with a G.E.D. asking how hard it would be to create a black hole, they'd get a headache just thinking about how they could tell you to fuck yourself in a way that wouldn't be above your comprehension level.

Fuck off.

Better? :D

I know, right? I blame it on the teachers. Its not the OP's fault that he had such a dumb idea, it's the teachers.
