Default Standback Timing Resolved

So the standback had this issue with anything over 3.5 degree advance throwing a misfire code. I told Lou (the designer of the standback) about it and he had a solution in 10 min. Its not the standback, its the tune.
If you are tuning timing past 3 degrees make sure to ramp it up and down in no more then 3 degrees. The misfire code was not an actual misfire, the ecu just thought it was a misfire becuase anything over a 3.5 degree cause a misfire code.

WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT CLETUS?

Ok here an example of what NOT to do

Look at timing on a set rpm (horizontally). Do you see how it does nothing then all of a sudden at 2800 and 3.4v it jumps to 2 degrees then proceeds to go down the rpm scale. Thats fine, and thats how i use to tune my timing, if you want to keep it under 3.5.
If you have meth and want to play with it (aka go over 3.5) here is what you have to do.

Say you are at idle around 700 rpm and .7 volts. When you floor the car you are diagonally moving down the rpm while increasing voltage till u reach full throttle. At full throttle the voltage remains the same and the rpms continue going up, or in this case down the graph. Once you reach your shift point your voltage drops to around 1.3 in less then 12 engine revolutions. This sudden change in throttle, jumps out of your timing change ZONE. If anything over a 3.5 degree change is noted that quickly, the ecu thinks the car misfires when it really hasnt.

Solution: For this example say you shift at 6034 rpms. According to the wrong chart, your timing advance is 3 degree if the throttle voltage exceeds 3.4 volts. (Full throttle is 4.2 volts if your flashed by cpe. If you are not flashed by cpe, log your voltage to see what it is actually doing.)
The second you get off the throttle and push the clutch in the rpms drop (go up on the chart) and the throttle closes (voltage goes down). When the voltage goes below 3.4 degree (where you started making changes) The ecu see a drastic timing change. If that change is over 3.5 degree it will throw a random misfire code. What we now have to do is ramp it down.

This is a crude example of what i mean:

From 1.3 to 1.6 volts set timing to 1 3000 rpm and up.
From 1.6 to 1.9 set it to 3 from 3000 rpm and up.
From 1.9 to 2.3 set it to 5 from 3000 rpm and up.
Keep ramping it up untill you reach full throttle. Your timing at full throttle will be whatever you want as long as u do not exceed 3 degree increasements

DO NOT USE THIS EXAMPLE. I am running meth and the car started to detonate at 8 degrees. If you are not using meth i would highly recommend not exceeding 2-3 degrees of timing advance.

Here is my 8 degree timing advance chart that started to detonate the car in very hot temps. At night the car RIPPED HARD!!!, but even with meth, its more timing then anyone wants to run.

I understand the timing at one point in the above example jumps from 4 to 8, but the misfire seems to be thrown when 3 degrees is exceeded on the horizontal scale, not the vertical scale. Just to keep it safe, keep it under 3 degree changes in both scales

Good job on figuring it out - now you are starting to understand that there is a lot of logic (read programming logic) behind the tune of the vehicle that has to be well understood before messing with it.

How much timing do you think is safe based on your tests?
