Default Standback for newbies...

OK, so I'm pondering the idea of a Standback...

I figured I'd start this thread for all the new comers and myself that would like to know the benefits/capabilities of having a Standback.

Also, I would like to know the differences between the Standback and the Exede. Which one is better or has more capabilities?

Why would a MS3 owner want a Standback? Keep in mind, my definition newbies is someone with no tuning experience what so ever!!!

Thanks!!

the difference btwn the xede and Sb are in they way they fool the ecu. Xede is more focused on load, sb is more focused on maf/throttle

Why would you want one? To dial in a tune, change everything according to your mods, taste. You want a race tune...put some race gas in it and go all out, you want a baby tune, tune for 11.5 and retard timing. Everytime you add mods you can simple do a pull and change whatever is out of wack. As for tunning help....i started a thread, all i need is a datalog and ill tune your car in 3 pulls, eventually you will get the idea and you will be able to fine tweak things yourself.

So whats a better what to tune; load or MAF/throttle?

Would you say its an easy learning curve to get the whole tuning thing?

I'm a bolt-on and forget type of person...does the Standback still fit my bill or will I have to constantly tune even though I don't mod very often.

Is there a plug and play harness solution for the SB that is less than $400?

CP-E should be releasing theirs soon. I believe it will be under $400.

Yeah...watch out for it in the follow month or so... Speculation is less than $400.
This is what I'm waiting for before taking the plunge.

ponder no longer
I was no fan of the SB or any tuner for quite some time but since I installed the SB - I've been having a lot of fun tuning my car
I even bought a 9" Dell mini laptop to keep in the car for tuning, logging, etc
good stuff....

Do you have any fears of doing something wrong and damaging your engine?

Would you describe your new found experience with the Standback?
Why has it changed your perspective? Since you've been doing so well without it thus far.

so far I have to say it isn't "easy" but once you use it things fall into place and will become 2nd nature to you
there are plenty of people on this forum plus the guys at cp-e(Jordan) that will bend over backward to help you tune and learn to tune
I was doing well w/o the SB but at a point, you need some controls
My last dyno caused my first "cut" from maxing the MAF @ 4.9-5.0volts
this and not being able to adjust timing, etc etc etc finally prevailed and I made the leap
you won't regret it
