Default Limited ECUs on MS3

Does anyone know if there are different types of ECUs on the Mazdaspeed 3 depending where you bought the car from. I have been told that ECUs from California and Arizona are more limited than others. I want to know if thats true because I live in Mexico and they say mine is even more limited than those in California and in order to make proper mods I need to replace it.
What do you think or know???
Thanks

no i think philly want to know if your runnin no2? nitrous. i think(sometimes you cant tell what he wants its cool just play along). anyway i know that there is a cali model(although it has been confirmed other states car came with cali from the factory) and federal model ecu's. big difference i think would be cali would be more emissions strict then fed. but it would just depend on what the states regulations call for. i know it sounds confusing but you just get what you get. hope that helps bro.

I've heard that Mexican gasoline is not as good as what is available in the states. It would make sense to have a less aggressive tune if you thought the gas was questionable.

Correct me if I'm wrong on the gas thing though.

yeah thats exactly what i think... california and arizona are more limited due to emissions policies and mexican is even more because mexico is even more polluted jajaj Thanks Skeeter..I probably need to get a new ECU maybe one from Texas

Well gasoline in mexico is good... but only goes up to 91 octane for premium fuel... I think some parts in USA offer up to 94 but gas is good here. It is also cheaper, at least for the moment but I do not know the true reason for a limited ECU.. I have to investigate more but its kind of hard to find out and even more in Mexico
Thanks jweller

look into it first, i dont know if a cali car can bolt in a fed ecu. i just wonder if there would be a conflict of looking for things that arent there. but if you do look into this at all please let me know for the heads up.

yeah I will do my research..I had never heard of this until I took it to a tuner place and they said all mods were useless unless I changed the ECU. I trust those tuners so I will Check it out, they are called forzaperformance.
If I find out anything I will let you know

wait what do they mean change the ecu. you can do bolt on like intake, exhaust, downpipe and the ecu will adjust. i dont see what they mean change the ecu. you can get a tuner but it wont make you change ecus so i am honestly lost on what they told you.

yeah i'm going to have to agree with skeet. something doesn't sound right. It would be helpful if you would clarify the way you are using modification.

do you mean:
Modifying the operating parameters of the ECU itself in order to get the car to perform better.

or:
Throwing new parts on the engine/suspension/interior/exterior.

If you're using it in the first instance, your tuner is half right. You do need to change the ECU, but that doesn't mean rip it out of the car and put a cali or fed ecu in. You need either a ECU re-flash (I.E. Piasini, CP-E full control, etc.)
A piggyback system (I.E. CP-E Standback)
or something like the COBB accessport, which is currently dialing in its preloaded tunes.

If the second meaning is the one you are using. you should be able to throw some bolt-ons in the car without issue since our ECU is highly adaptable and will learn to operate with those pieces on. However, you really should invest in a diagnostic tool to go with those bolt ons so you can monitor the effect each one has on the way your vehicle operates. hope this helps some. peace.

they told me to change my entire ECU because even if I had all the mods in the world my ECU would not let the car perform correctly unless I Buy a new different one. I agree with you and with Breakdown81 and thats why im kind of confused. They offer me the Cobb access port but they say it only works on specific ECUs such as those "non-limited ones"
It really does not make sense since I thought of a reflash and not a physical change of my ECU but thats what he told me. He also told me that very little persons know since it is a special ECU for Mexican market and it may differ from yours. HE described 3 types of ECU one which is the normal one which you all probably own A California, Arizona one and a Mexican one. IM really confused
Saludos
