Default Dell mini for the Standback

Using my work laptop has gotten to be a big pain in the ass for messing with the SB. I thought I saw someone mention that they picked up a Dell mini for it. I get a discount on Dell through work so I went looking and the price is right, but what are the minimum specs I need to run it just for the Standback. I like the idea of using one with the 16gb Solid State Hard drive, but is that big enough? In this day and age, that seems so small. How does Winblows even fit on that? I went searching on the cp-e site and don't see any minimum system requirements for the SB so I'm not sure what exactly I need. Any input is appreciated.

TIA

I thought it was you, but I couldn't find the post. Which model/specs did you get? I was thinking mini 9 with 1gb ram and 16gb SS HD.

I just ordered the best one with everything you can get as an upgrade
I think I spent under $600 as the base best model is like $440 IIRC
plus shoved a 2G memory stick in there from Crucial after receiving the mini
Dell won't sell you more than 1G in the mini, why I have no idea.....

Hey Whoosh, does it have 1 memory slot or 2? I'm not going to upgrade the memory at Dell if I'm going to replace it with 2GB anyway.

The Dell mini9 looks nice. I see now they even have a Dell mini12.

I got a free Asus EEEPC and will see how that works with the SB when I get it some day.

I have a EEE PC701SD with 8GB SSD and 512 MB RAM. I have XP Pro installed with SP2 and have no storage problems but it seems to hickup once in a while and freezes and I can not see why. I think it is more archatecture then anything.

Bah., Dell.. check out this MSI... These guys make motherboards for many tier 1 computer vendors, just like Asus and Foxconn do. They have been doing mini's as long as shuttle has been doing mAtx setups.

mwave.com: MSI U100-420US WIND NB umpc (black) intel Atom n270 1.6ghz / 1gb / 120gb hdd / 10" wsvga / 1.3 webcam / 3 cell battery / 802.11bg wireless / xp home (retail)

Nice, same features as the Acer except the Acer has a smaller screen and is slightly smaller than the MSI. Plus the Acer has an extra SD port for expanded memory. I'd like to find a 6cell battery for mine. They both have the same resolution, but I think the MSI might be better for those that need a slightly larger screen 10" vs. 8.9".

I personally want to pick up one with a SS HD. If I need more storage I can get an external HD. For use STRICTLY for the SB I think the 16GB SS HD is a better idea. The speed and reliability in the car is far better than a normal HD. Screen size is important too because I want it to fit in the glove box. Stepping up to the 10" may be pushing the limit of fitting. Thanks for the help guys. I'm still shopping and if you run across any other good deals, feel free to post them up.
