Default Something I know NOTHING about! HELP

Alright so I am pondering purchasing a water meth kit for my car so I can play with higher boost levels since I built my head. I run a full standalone so I can play with my wastegate maps so that I wont spin tires. For example, I can run 70% duty cycle till 5000rpm and then jack it up so I run like 22psi once I hit 5000rpm and am running meth (tuned of course)...

What is a good kit for me to purchase...I seriously know NOTHING about meth kits so please help me out with things to look for. The way I want to run it is this - I can switch maps on my standalone with a momentary switch. What I would want is a meth kit i can turn on and then runs according to my rpm and map sensor? so that once i flip to my meth map on my haltech i can then turn on the meth system and reallllllly play in higher boost levels.

Again I know nothing about running these systems so start from the beginning

You want something that has failsafes built in, a low level indicator for your tank is good and a flow sensor is key. If water / meth stops flowing for any reason you want your standalone to know it and react accordingly.

Next, figure out where / how you want to do the injection. Usually its done either in the cold pipe pre-TB or maybe post-TB. Or you can tap your intake mani runners and do multi-port water injection if you want to go really hardcore.

Other than that, all you really need is a 125 or 150 psi pump, an injection computer to control the pump, and a tank and wiring. Some of the brands I've heard good things about are Devils own, labonte and snow.

Personally I went with an Aquamist kit. Its quite a bit more expensive but I got a decent deal on it through a group buy. Its a progressive kit that runs off of IDC instead of MAP/Boost pressure. It also doesn't vary the pump speed to change the amount it injects, it uses a high speed valve to restrict the flow when necessary so it can react extremely quickly.

i actually want to do it in my intake before the turbo. i've heard it makes incredible gains and drops temps ALOT!

I'd like to go with devils own because they are on the forums but snow performance is one i have always heard good things about. if devils own will sit down with me on the phone to discuss a setup that they could make perfect for my car I would definately be interested and love to run their setup but i need to understand fully. i am really technical as i have done the majority of the owrk to my car - but this is new to me and I don't do anything till i feel i understand it completely (or just more than what most people would call "enough"). I am in miami and it gets HOT! i want low intake temps and my cryo2 kit helps but ya...ditch that junk for meth!

Be careful if you go pre-turbo. Yes you can potentially make some big gains, but you're shooting in drops of water that are going to impact an impeller moving at incredibly high speeds. You can cause a lot of damage to the turbine by doing this, not to mention most of your cooling from the liquid is going to be obliterated by the incredibly hot turbo.

If you're looking for the biggest temp drop you want it post IC. If you do it pre-IC then you cool the hot turbo air down a bit then send it through the IC for its final cooling... its better if you take the cold air from after the IC and cool it down further afterwards.

Not to mention you want the water/meth mixture in a highly atomized liquid form when it enters the cylinder, if you go pre-turbo you run the risk of having the liquid evaporate, or even worse having it pool in your IC piping and never make it to the combustion chamber.

Just be very very thorough in your research before deciding where to mount it. Keep in mind too that the gains you'll get from this aren't just from a colder air charge, the methanol acts as an "octane booster" almost, which will allow you to suppress detonation and run more aggressive timing and more boost. You can think of it as a cheap way to turn regular gas into race fuel if you do a traditional style injection post turbo.

msot of the kits just look like a pump and a tank.

Though aquamist is working on something neat, I doubt it won't be out for ages:

That looks like the water cooling system my ex used to have in her computer.

Aquamists shit is over-rated. Ive had one of their high dollar kits before and it was a nightmare in the reliability dept. Besides, once you see what the Devil is going to release soon, will have you all wanting it!

Pre-turbo can fuck up the turbine. The effects can happen as quick as 7000 miles. Thats why i only recommend running an additional pump doing this. The pressure drop running 2 nozzles is enough to cause the atomization effects of the pre-turbo to drop.

heh, i hope that isn't the case, but if it is you'll definately be getting a review on the HFS 5 from me as soon as my lazy ass gets around to installing it.
