Default H&R Coilover Installation Help

I've read some how to's on how to install coilovers so my brother and I decided to give it a try on my MS3. The stock rear spring has a rubber piece at the top that I read should be reused, but when we tried to put it on it didn't fit right.

We decided to just continue with the install without them. For the guys that have installed coilovers, did you have to modify the rubber piece to fit?

I took the rear springs out again tonight and still could see how the stock rubber top would fit with the coilover kit. Here are some cell phone pics I took.

Here's the stock rubber top

Here's the spring that comes with the kit with the top that's adjustible

I tried putting the rubber piece on the spring and then the adjusting piece of the kit on top, but it looked like the adjusting part for the kit would slide. I also tried putting the rubber piece at the top, but it's lopsided at the bottom and it's not a good fit.

This is my first time installing coilovers, but what am I missing here?

I didnt use it. Youre supposed to use the stock top piece on the front shocks.

I'm going to see how it works without the rubber top and try installing it again if I hear noise coming from the back springs. Here is the car after the drop.
