Default going to the dealer Tuesday

wondering if anyone encountered this problem. From a stop eihter in reverse or 1st gear very lightly accelerate (maybe 2 full tire rotations maybe even less) and a slight clunk from the left front. Brakes are not engaged so its either axle to hub related or a suspension piece, either way it takes the shift in direction of weight transfer to re-create the sound. I am all ears for any opinions, my car has 30k miles and at 36k the basic warranty goes bye bye. (tuesday I am taking it in)

+1. i was never able to figure out what that sound was. I even went out with a tech from Galpin and i could not reproduce the sound for him. mine started at 1000k it comes and goes. i now have 20000k and it occasionally does it.

please keep us posted on what the dealer tells you.

by the way, i am completely stock. if the info helps.

well, the best way to re-create it is by shifting the weight transfer (going back and forth)which leads me to believe it has to be suspension related since its what "rests" under load. The tech said it even sounded like axle noise but again if it only does it once it cant be on something that is constantly rotating. It has been suggested to me by someone that a lose nut in the front sway bar is the culprit, but the Service manger said"these cars dont have front sway bars" . I wonder what the guys that have bought the front and rear Cobb sway bars are doing with the front ones.....using is as a tire iron maybe?..........and we are supposed to respect the techs at dealerships?

+1 means "i agree"

I have the same deal, I notice mine when the car has been sitting overnight or for long enough to really cool down, then I put it in reverse and right when it starts to move i hear a little clunk.

Once its warmed up I don't hear the noise at all.

I think its coming from the transmission, maybe the locking of the differential or something.

I'm not too worried about it, my last car made all sorts of crazy noises, thats just how it was.

if its under warranty you should worry about it because it will be a free fix. I checked today(saturday) and they havent even touched my car (originally I had an appointment for next tuesday but I didnt want to drive it anymore so i took it in thursday). I got my AP at home (came in later that day) ........the way things are going I am gonna take my mods in the trunk of the rental when its time to pick it up, including the AP. They gave me a 2.0 mazda3 slug. (makes me appreciate my car though)...ill post what they find.....and I also mentioned the fact that this car at 60-65mph in 6th gear with slight load sometimes cuts the engine power and does a horrible rattling noise (kinda like an F1 car hitting the speed limiter in the pits)

btw, you should DEFINATELY have this checked out, tell them to inspect the drivers side transmission mount.

Why? Because my engine fell out last night. I was hearing the noise you described intermittently, then on my way back from the beach I was hearing it more often, low and behold it was just a matter of time before catastrophe.

You're 100% right, I should have had them look at it, but I couldn't duplicate it until about an hour before the engine fell out it was doing it a whole bunch.

Yeah. Sucks b/c when I bought the car I explicitly asked if they had performed the recall... they said they did. So one of two things happened, either they performed the recall and the thing still failed, or they didn't perform the recall work.

I'm kind of hoping they never performed the recall work cause if they did and I still managed to rip the engine loose that scares the hell out of me.

yeah.... as soon as that noise shows up, time to test the bolt. What happened with mine wasn't that the mount broke, but the bolt broke loose / backed out.
