Heh. Knockoffs might work for sunglasses, but wheels are actually important. Those pictures at the end are painful to look at.

If you see comment three below, you will see that's some b.s. Rota makes wheels just as strong as everyone else and even makes some oem wheels. People hate on them for stealing designes, but they are light and cheap, and just as well made as anyone else, they have the same quality certifications. Maybe not as strong as a hre or something like that, but definately equal to 5zigen, tsw, blitz and other cheaper jap brands.

It is true though that 5-10 years ago they were selling garbage.

Oh wait, I thought the article was about wheels that might brand themselves as Rota for instance, but are actually not, such as "joklies/folklies" where it's got the Oakley symbol on it but is some cheaply made imitation. Or like a Rolex that is a fake Rolex. *rereads*

No, it was probably arranged by some high price wheel vendor who is pissed that rota is selling so many wheels. There are literally thousands of wrx's road racing with Rota's, evo's as well, just that the big name companies (like prodrive) are pissed that rota is making copies their wheels and sells them for 20% as much as them.

I heard that rota did have a bad reputation for wheels cracking and such a while back, but they are now a very well made wheel. Who knows...

Those were mostly just rumors being spread by "wheel elitists" guys who think you only get good stuff for 2k plus (o.z. superlagerra guys, if you know the type, HRE guys too). Rotas are really light, that's my favorite part about them, I really want the P1's, I am thinking of getting the all white ones for my black car. Think it would look pretty kick ass.

I used to work for a major wheel distributor 6 years ago. We sold all sorts of wheels from HRE to American Eagle. If a wheel was being made we could pretty much get it. I did this for 7 years and learned a lot about wheels and the pro's and con's between manufacturers. If Rotas quality control have improved in the last 5 years then I might think of looking at these wheels but if nothing has changed than I would not give them to my worst enemy. We did more RMA's on Rotas for wheels not being true, hard to balance, finish issues, and complete structural failure. Most of the failures were on cars being raced and put through stresses not normally seen with every day driving. Did we sell more Rotas than any other brand? No and thats the scary part!

Again, if the quality has improved in the last 5 years than I apologize for being negative about Rotas. I know they are popular and do save money compared to other premium brand wheels.

I had a friend break his spokes off his entire rim on his Rotas...but....that's what doing 70 sideways into a curb will do, regardless of what wheel it is.

I hear HRE actually has had some issues in the past with wheels failing on the track
Hmm, i wonder what my ms3 would look like with CCWs

Well, you're sort of right. The article is about knockoff knockoffs. FTA "Jim from Work Wheels to break down what are the possible hazards of purchasing knockoff..KNOCKOFF Wheels." So in essence, they are taking a shot at Rota's by calling them knockoffs, but they are warning against the structural quality of knockoffs that purport to be Rotas, in this specific example.

Only the Rota Slipstreams are copies of Spoon rims. They've got a lot of other Volk, Work, Prodrive, Advan, etc. copies.

As for those pictures that are "proof" that Rotas are evil, take a look at the tire in that SNOW picture and I'd bet my first-born somebody was going too fast around a corner and slammed into a curb. Lots of rims would shatter like that if they broadsided a curb. And even if they didn't break, you wouldn't be driving on them anymore.

*Full Disclosure - I am not an employee of Rota, have never purchased Rotas, do not sell Rotas, but would buy them if I could save enough money for them. (baby on the way and the wife not working sucks for cash flow)
