Default Speed 3 clutch failure - low miles

I have a 2010 MS3 with 20k miles. The clutch just needed to be replaced - cost me about $1300. This car has not been driven aggressively. The dealer said it is not covered under warranty. Any ideas why this happened or what I can do so it doesn't happen again? This is my third Mazda, but this makes me wonder about buying Mazda again, or even keeping this car. Never had an issue with any other mt car.

Are you the original owner? Could have been abused by previous owner. I have 81,000 on my clutch.

They only warranty clutches to like 10K miles or so. They are pretty bulletproof, unless someone drove it and sucks at stick. We had one guy who loaned it to his mom or some shit and after 12 miles it was fried. She did not know stick.

Now that you just registered, read the welcome PM and spend time searching. There is a Google option, too.

Dont leave your foot on the pedal when not slipping the clutch.

I make a habit of resting my foot on the plate and try to ride the clutch as little as possible when shifting but I still never think I'm shifting right. I have clutch paranoia anyway but I find these cars feel flimsy especially with the 2nd gear grind and the hard time shifting into first gear. I'm used to it now but it still concerns me.

I had 117k on my original clutch when it was replaced, and it still had some miles left on it. I also beat the everloving shit out of it: FFS, slipped it, basically drove it like I stole it most of the time. Maybe your clutch doesn't like you because you drive like a pussy.

I have a 2012 with almost 20k on it.

I remember reading about someone who had their clutch chewed up in less than 12k or something due to the pressure plate, I believe. But to be honest, the chances of a shitty driver are significantly greater than a manufacturer defect, especially on these cars. They aren't the easiest to drive, and have a pretty steep learning curve.

I've got 11k and I've beat it pretty badly in hopes it would break under warranty. Still, no problems and don't foresee any.
Why because of clutch failure would you want to not keep it or not think about repurchasing a Mazda again?
It is a wearable item, seems like a silly choice to me regardless if it was a factory defect or a fault of your own.

Have you tried adjusted the clutch pedal yourself at any point in time?

If you say you never drive it aggressive. For grandma driving I assume you don't WOT often. Maybe the clutch never fully engaged and always slipped just a wee bit and since you don't drive it hard you never noticed.

It happened to me too at around 12k. I admit I was fucking with it lol. I bitched at the dealer and contacted mazda headquarters and they contacted the dealer to follow up. When the dealer contacted me with the investigation, they said the same thing the dealer told me. So I complained to the headquarters telling them that it's bullshit I bought the car brand new and it's not covered! I will not buy a mazda again! They were just like ok have a nice day. When I got back to the dealer, they replaced the clutch and flywheel for free for customer satisfaction. Ever since then I never fucked with it and I'm still on the same clutch with 97k on it. Good luck see if it works for you.
